And you can work all 5 school-year afternoons. HS diploma or GED. No degree required.

Is this you?

You've spent at least a year with school-age kids

Camp, tutoring, another after-school program, volunteering in a school, coaching. You know how to keep a room of 6–18 year-olds engaged after a long school day. Our training builds on the skills you bring. These roles fit people like:

🎓

Students with morning classes

Free afternoons and studying education, social work, psychology, kinesiology, or art at GRCC, GVSU Pew, Calvin, Aquinas, Kendall, Davenport, or Cornerstone.

🏀

Coaches & camp counselors

You already run practices and keep a group of kids moving and focused.

🎨

Artists & creatives

Share your craft with kids who don't get studio time anywhere else.

🍎

Paras & second-job adults

School aides, morning-shift workers, and semi-retired adults who want work with purpose.

The must-haves
  • At least 1 year of experience with school-age kids (ages 6–18)
  • Available all 5 school-year afternoons
  • HS diploma or GED
  • Pass a background check

Infant and toddler childcare experience on its own isn't the right fit for these roles.

Build list for the web team

BGC approved this direction and said "I like this one a lot better." The goal: bring in applicants who have 1+ year of experience with school-age kids and can work all 5 school-year afternoons. Ground rules for the build

  • Keep the URL exactly the same: bgcgrandrapids.org/join-our-team/. Google Ads point there. Changing it breaks the ads and causes a policy violation.
  • Build privately (draft or staging). Don't publish until BGC reviews and approves.
  • Job description PDFs: use the 5 Word docs BGC sent on Oct 9. BGC says they haven't changed.
  • Keep the existing form notifications (Kristin, Kayla, Oscar) when the form changes.

Still to confirm with BGC

  1. FAQ answers (Brittany sends them for review)
  2. Pay by role, or one range?
  3. Summer start and end dates
  4. Minimum age
  5. Which full-time roles are open right now
